As Greg Hinojosa leads me to the Woodlawn’s new black-box theater, I sense a mixture of excitement and trepidation. In February, Hinojosa, a well-regarded fixture in the local stage scene, replaced founding artistic director Jonathan Pennington. His right place/right time mojo seems to give him and those around him a quiet thrill as he walks downstage center. The 125-seat space, which will complement the main-stage musicals with edgier fare, will be operational in two weeks.
“I feel like the theater torches are being passed on to a new generation,” he says. “The responsibility is enormous. I don’t take it lightly.”
