Lawyers challenge reduced fees for children's court

Attorneys continue to pile in, squeezing trays of food between elbows and rear ends to find the last few seats among the tables that line the narrow cubicle. Two-dozen more fill the gaps between chairs and crowd into the doorway at the far end. Rosie Gonzalez, one of the organizers of today's meeting, promises she'll reserve a bigger room next time, but this summit was called on short notice. Early last week, the County released fee changes for the lawyers it pays to represent kids and parents facing separation because of allegations of abuse, neglect or family violence – and they feature significant cuts meant to help Bexar balance its 2012 budget.
