Send out the clowns

Another WellMed shoe dropped last week when the Express-News reported that District 6 Councilman Ray Lopez was alternately running errands for the Medicare-funded company that holds major City contracts for senior health-care services, and lobbying them for work for his IT consulting firm. If it turns out he hasn’t, in fact, broken the law, it’s only because the code's wording is a little mushy.

The Lopez revelations followed the January news that District 3 rep Jennifer Ramos (who introduced Lopez to WellMed) was pushing her employer’s interests with the San Antonio Housing Authority and other agencies. Until she announced her resignation February 10, Ramos’ official position was grant writer for the WellMed Charitable Foundation, but her boss clearly saw her as the company’s woman in the chamber.
