If he’s to have any hope of overtaking Diego Bernal in next month’s runoff, he'll have to raise a significant amount of money quickly and begin attacking the civil rights attorney immediately. He can’t say a nice or even neutral word about Bernal until the polls close June 11.

Several sources, speaking on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to publicly discuss the contest, said a faction of Medina’s backers are blanching; they want him to avoid a costly blood bath and cede the race to Bernal, though they haven’t pressed him hard to do so.
